Jim's Story

Went to NC State after high school and had a great time, but Uncle Sam was calling so went to OCS starting in Jan 70. BUDS Training till Nov70. Assigned to UDT 21 then SEAL 2. Left active duty in 73 and spent 2 years in reserves attached to SEAL 2. Went to UNC CH and got an MBA in 75. Moved to NYC and best job was with Exxon Enterprises where I helped develop solar energy. Lived in and out of Saudi Arabia and New Jersey for a few years then got married and we moved to San Francisco area on the peninsula and been there till 2012 Mostly worked in Silicon Valley high tech and spent last ten years as in house entrepreneur with a venture firm and built several companies. No kids and wife went back and got an MFA in painting. I completed my PhD in 2011, and we moved to Istanbul in Dec 2012 for a couple of ...Expand for more
years and a new adventure. Spent three years in Istanbul, but it was getting a little uncomfortable so we decided to continue our adventure. somewhere else. We had planned on staying 2 years and going back to CA, but things changed. We decided we did not want to go back to CA so we settled on Europe and looked around for where to live. Narrowed it down to Berlin and Barcelona and have happily been living in Barcelona in an area called Gracia, located in the middle of the city. We just sold our CA property and bought a place 10 miles outside Barcelona on the coast and 5 minute walk to the sea. We have been working on the house for about 6 months as it is a historic building with a great view of the Med. We are enjoying it here and have had many guests from the U.S. Look us up if you are there. Jim Uhl
