Jimmie's Story
I decided to avoid the Draft after Graduation in 1958 by joining the Army. I went through Basic at Fort Benning GA. and then to my unit at Fort Sill OK. where I was trained to be a CW ( Morse code) radio operator. Then in July 1959, My outfit was rotated to Bad Kissingen, Germany. I was there for almost 2 years as a CW Radio Operator in HQ Battery 2nd Howitzer Battalion,28th Artillery and returned to the States in 1961 where I was discharged.
I married the girl next door in 1962 and we had two children a Boy and a Girl. Both are doing well. We also have two Grandchildren, a Boy and a Girl also doing well.
I then worked at the Hy-Fy gas station on Crittenden Dr for a time. It was there that, for one of the few times, I crossed paths with former classmates.
One day a new 64 Chevy convertible pulls up to the pump and there was Benny Sant and Judy Wilkerson in the car. I filled it up, cleaned the windshield and wished them a good day.
In 1969 I entered United Electronics¿ Institute and acquired an associates degree in electronics.
I used my electronics training to get a job with CGR Medical Co...Expand for more
rp., an x ray manufacturing co. as a field service engineer in 1971. They were later bought by General Electric in 1988 and I continued with G.E. Healthcare until I retired in 2004.
CGR moved me to Beckley WV in 1971 where my service area covered Southern WV and Eastern KY including the ARH hospitals. The business later required me to relocate in the Huntington WV area where I remain today.
Our main activities now center around our three Horse. We take them camping, trail riding and have recently joined the Wayne National Forest volunteer Trail Patrol in Southern Ohio.
We are looking forward to meeting people on the trail, helping with directions, information or what ever aid we can give, even First if necessary.
I am also a member of the Ohio Horseman Council and maintain the clubs Facebook group page, Lawrence Co. Chapter of OHC .Take a look to see what we do.
Right now I am working with my horse, Fancy, to train her as a Cowboy Mounted Shooting horse. She is doing pretty good so far, Hardly flinches when I fire the pistol. I think we will be ready for competition when the season starts up again.
