Joan's Story
Joanne (Joan) Adam Finnerty of Longwood, Florida passed away after a long illness on January 10, 2015 at her home with her husband and son at her side. She was a loving wife to Jack for over 60 years, a wonderful mother and friend to her children, Kim and Keith Finnerty, and daughter-in-law, Cristie Hiatt Finnerty. She was also the proud grandmother of Adam, Ian and Kiera Finnerty.
Joanne was born in 1932 in Framingham, MA to Joseph and Mary (Haggerty) Adam. She graduated from Framingham High School and married John Finnerty, a city boy from New York, in 1954. They settled first in Ashland, and then in Holliston, where they raised their family.
Joanne was a compassionate person whose heart truly went out to others. She was always there for her family and friends, giving so much in both good and hard times. She loved travel and had the opportunity to explore the US, Europe and...Expand for more
the Caribbean. She particularly loved visiting her family’s countries of origin, Italy and Ireland. She was a lover of music, dance and art, filling her home with an eclectic mix of art and taking classes to create her own works later in life.
She leaves behind the family members above, as well as sisters June Keefe of Holliston and Helen Spinks of Framingham, and dozens of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, in-laws Stephen & Marie Finnerty, siblings Rita, Ruth, Robert, John and Joseph, as well as her granddaughter Mariah Finnerty.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Stephen RC Church, 221 Concord St, Framingham at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26 and she will be interred at Baldwin-Fairchild Cemetery in Altamonte Springs, Florida on February 18. In lieu of flowers, Joanne requested that donations be made to: Make-A-Wish® America
