Joan Kipp's Story

In 1977, I went to TCU with a 4 year choral scholarship. During my freshman year, God continued to work on my heart and pull me closer to Him. In the middle of my sophomore year after a concert chorale choir tour, I asked Jesus to be my boss and guide. Life changed drastically after that - for the good. I realized how selfish I had been and how I had looked for my significance and security in guys in high school and college, instead of where it can never waiver or fail - in God. I would like to ask for forgiveness of anyone whom I hurt, even unknowingly, during this time. I previously didn't have much hope in my life, though I tried to encourage other people. I became happier and more secure in who I was as a person. I graduated from TCU in 1981 with a degree in Speech Communications in Human Relations. I stayed in the DFW area, lived with a friend who was still in school, and worked in the area. I met my late husband, Lonnie J. Massey, the day after he hitchhiked into town and also asked Jesus into his life. Long story short, we were married in January of 1983 in Fort Worth, TX. We have two boys who are great kids. Lonnie and I were each other's best friends and happily married for 22.5 years. We homeschooled our oldest boy through his sophomore year in high school. Lonnie was involved in leadership in our homeschool group and at our church, Hope Church. in the music ministry and children's ministries . I was also involved at church several different times - women's home fellowship leader, preschool director. Then on July 5, 2005, ...Expand for more
Lonnie died in a car accident. My boys were also in the accident. My oldest, Shawn who was 15 at the time, pulled out my younger son who was 12 at the time, but could not get my husband out of the vehicle. Shawn had only a scratch. Chris, my younger son, had two broken femurs and a gash on his head. My husband died on the way to the hospital. Chris developed complications and was in the hospital for almost 4 months and I was with him most of that time. Shawn lived with some friends for a semester and started attending a small private school. Chris joined him in a wheelchair in the spring; then Chris went to a walker; then he started working out with the football team in the summer and played in the fall of 2006. Wow! God was really good to us - it could have been much worse. I could have lost all of them. Yes, I miss my husband, but I also see God's will at work when 3 people in the same accident have 3 totally different experiences - My husband died within the hour; Shawn crawled through a broken window, walked around the vehicle through broken shards of glass barefooted without a cut; and Chris had two broken femurs and a gash on his head and in the hospital for almost 4 months. My life blew apart that day, but God has put things back together in a way that only He can. I am still single and God has provided for all my needs and even wants. Shawn graduated from high school this year. I guess that's one of the reasons that I finally joined (and paid for) Classmates.com - reminiscing....Hope y'all are doing well where life has you! Joan
