Joan's Story

School Crush? I remember having a crush on Bobby Pearce in third grade. We even had a wedding ceremony. Some of my outstanding memories are racing against Leonore Provinzano. She was the fastest. We'd get together after school in her basement and play school and share our dreams of what we wanted to do when we grow up. In kindergarten I had to stand in the corner for whispering while putting away our mats. Mr. Gollander saved all my product maps of the regions of America. In the play in 5th grade I was the mother (I think) and Eddie Black was the son. I didn't have a handkerchief for a prop so I had to wipe his shirt with my hand. I was too young to be romantic at the school dances when they played "Put YOur Head on My Shoulders." Miss Masui expounded a lot of energy for us to enjoy music, and with her I did like music. I remember the day they told us that we will no longer be singing the southern songs of historical significance.I remember the day Richard Greene got "the phone call" during class and had to go home. I was always grateful to his mom for having us over one day for Dick's birthday party and we got to meet his sister. And Richard, if you ever read this, your loss is still a tender ...Expand for more
issue in my heart. May the God of all peace and comfort be all you need Him to be, even after all these years. After a year or two it ws so obvious who would be our next teacher since we never crossed over to the other side of the hallway, UNTIL we got to sixth grade and the rooms were situated differently. Remember Danny DeGood breaking his arm during recess? Mr. Gollander was fun at recess playing football with us. Ny biggest crush was on someone two years ahead of us and I even got a basketball for Christmas so I could go to the basketball court and play ball when he was there. Don't you think the teachers looked older then than we do now??? How deluded are we? All in all, I loved my classmates and teachers at Oakview. I loved having the same kids every year in my class. I'm sorry I didn't get to know the kids in the class on the "other side of the hall." However, a few years ago I attended a conference and who should my wandering eyes see? Carol Bloom from the "other class." We talked and prayed. The the next year she brought her 6th grade combined class picture in. Together we named everyone (except one and of course the name escapes me, but not the face) and prayed for each of you.
