Joanne's Story
Life
After high school, I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in nursing and went into the Army Nurse Corp for three years. In 1970 Iwent to Graduate School at NYU and obtained a Masters in Child Psych Nursing in 1972. I then moved to Philadelphia and obtained a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Temple University in 1977. From 1974 to 1995, I divided my professional life into three areas: the private practice of family therapy, the education of graduate students at Penn and the private practice of organizational consultation. In August of 1997, I was appointed President and CEO at a human service agency, Melmark, Inc., 30 minites west of Philadelphia. Our organization provides educational, vocational, medical, residential and rehabilitative services to children and adults with developmental disabilities, in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Maryland.

d, I married in 1979. My husband Joe, had an 8 year old son, David, whose mother had died when he was 3. We lived in Arlington, VA for 5 years and then moved back to Philadelphia. While in Arlington we had two more sons, Michael in 1981 and Brian in 1983. David is our computer network speciialist here at Melmark. He is married with 2 daughters. Michael is finishing his last year at LaSalle Univiersity next spring. Brian is beginning at LaSalle in September. My husban, Joe is a LaSalle graduate and currently overseas communications, marketing and public relations for the University. We have a wonderful golden retreiver, Katie, who works in our pet program at Melmark.
I will be at Melmark and Penn until I retire. I enjoy the business and organizational growth and development the most, although my family and nursing backgrounds come in handy on a regular basis.
