Joanne's Story
Life
Never thought I'd see myself go to college. My biggest accomplishment was to spend 7 years in college. Almost quit and walked out "and didn't"... I always hated homework. I'm more disciplined in my work, family, etc.
I've changed quite a bit since high school. People take me more seriously now than they used to. In my field of work you really find out who your friends are. Residency life was not fun at all.
Never expected to get this far in
my chosen field. I started out in criminal justice and ended up in the medical field. This was my biggest surprise and one of my "greatest rewards"..
College
I graduated from Wichita State University with a BSN in ...Expand for more
nursing. From there attended The University Of Kansas School of Medicine majoring in emergency trauma medicine, with a minor in cardiology.
Graduated from Kansas State University with double major in
psych/social. Ended with a doctorate.
Love being a nurse practioner. Also, the United States Naval Reserve has given me my greatest pleasure aboard their medical ships, USS Mercy & Constantine. Was not fun running away from all the hurricanes in the atlantic. Hurricane Ike gave us a run for our money! I retired as a nurse practioner in 2007. After 23 years in the medical field, i now have more time to devote to family, friends, and traveling.
