JoAnne's Story
Life
I met Philip in October of 1986 and it was love at first sight! We were married on June 12, 1987 at the Grand Canyon. Our beautiful son Chancellor was born in 1988 in St. Louis, where Philip was running a radio station (KSTZ). After Chance was born, we decided to move back to Portland so Philip could attend Reed College. He graduated in 1993 with a B.A. in economics. That same year our gorgeous daughter Taylor was born. We then moved to Houston, TX where Philip was accepted into the PhD program at Rice University. In 1997, we moved back to Portland for a few years to reconnect with family. In 1999, Philip accepted a job offer in Richmond, VA where we are currently living. Since moving to Richmond, Philip returned to school again and received his MBA from Georgetown University. I also returned to school and received my B.A. from the University of Richmond. IÂm currently working as a paralegal and contemplating attending law school.
Our children are both happy and healthy. Chance is a sophomore at Columbia College in Chicago, IL. Taylor is a competitive cheerleader about to start high school. They both excel in academics like their father. They also have his drive and stubbornness!
Since marrying, Philip and I have traveled extensively. We recently returned from two weeks in Europe. Philip spent a week in Turkey with his Georgetown classmates, while Taylor and I spent a week in Paris. We then met up with ...Expand for more
Philip in Italy where we traveled to Venice, Pisa, and Rome. The only thing that could have made the trip better would have been if Chance had been with us. Of course, he could not due to school obligations.
Although, we have had a good life, it is not without its tragedies. Philip lost his father in 1995. I lost my father in 2004, and my oldest sister in 2006. These events pulled the rug out from under us and we are stilling trying to find our footing. It has truly made us realize how precious life is!
Update 8/14/08:
We recently returned from Cancun where we had an amazing time. Cancun is beautiful, but very expensive. Chancellor is about to start his junior year of college (I feel so old), and Taylor her sophomore year in high school. Chance has a near perfect GPA and is holding steady on his dream of becoming an actor. Taylor is a cheerleader for both competition and sideline. They are both amazing kids and I am so blessed to be their mom.
We are considering moving to Northern Virginia/D.C. area in the near future. I'm not really looking forward to it, as I have grown fond of Richmond, but Philip's career is really taking off and it looks like it's a go.
I have an amazing trip coming up soon with my mom and sisters. We will be traveling by car from Niagara Falls to Orlando, FL. And, then in January we will be traveling to Las Vegas to celebrate Chancellor's 21st birthday.
