Jody's Story
Life
I met my husband in college. We've been married since 1987, we have two children, a son who is in 10th grade and a daughter in 8th grade. My husband is a police officer for the KCMO police department. I am a kindergarten teacher for the NKCSD. Update:::: I am now a fourth grade teacher. I love the K kids, but it was time for a change and this group of kids were my favorite K class, I am really enjoying my year - they are awesome! I am super involved in the NEA - teacher's union. I have gone to several state representative conventions and then the National in Philadelphia - it was really an experience to be with 10,000 teachers and 7 presidential candidates, including one Republican, which is a first in 150 years of the NEA! They send me all over the country and I really feel like I'm developing as a leader. I've been nominated to be on the executive committee and I'm all over that nomination! Wish me luck...
My Pets
We have two pitbull terriers who are very sweet and entertaining. They are the most playful dogs in the world. They are also our P.R. dogs for the breed. People are drawn to them because they are so full of personality and so friendly and then they are always shocked when we tell them what breed our dogs are. We need to start blaming the deed, not the breed, it's all in responsible pet owner...Expand for more

My Kids
They are great - Son is a Sophomore at NWMS and in the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, which he really enjoys. Daughter is a senior in HS, involved in band and work. They both have great boy/girl friends that we consider part of the family.
My Job
It's fun, I teach fourth grade.
Workplace
I started teaching when my kids were 3 1/2 and 1. I taught preschool part time. When Katy was in 2nd grade I begin teaching full time. I have taught kindergarten ever since. I currently am the grade level representative for my school as well as a mentor teacher, master teacher, and on several committees - the social studies curriculum committee, the elementary task force, which basically works together to negotiate with the school board, and I have just been nominated to work on the math curriculum to align our math assessments and enter it into abacus, which is our curriculum computer program for our district. I am also the tech person for the building. I basically have to train the staff how to use all the technology in the building and trouble shoot any problems. This is a new added responsibility for me and I hope that it's not too much of a headache! The extra money will be nice and I will really become familiar with all that our district has to offer. I'm getting pretty busy but I really love it all.
