Jody's Story
After high school I went to McNeese for three years to work on my pre-physical therapy required courses
and worked in the training room, as I did at LaGrange. I even did some fashion modeling way back then at Heroes and once at Prien Lake Mall. During my third year at McNeese I met and started dating Pam Bellon, an accounting student from Basile, LA. After getting accepted to physical therapy school at LSU Medical Center in New Orleans, I moved there and started PT School the summer of 1984. My PT class of 30 consisted of 5 guys and 25 girls. New Orleans was a blast with the World's Fair going on at that time and the French Quarter and everything...Pam followed me there and started at UNO that fall... we got engaged Christmas 1984 and married December 1985. After getting my B.S. degree in Physical Therapy, we moved to Lafayette and I started working at Lafayette General Medical Center in 1986. We then moved back to Lake Charles in 1987. My first son, Jared, was born in May 1988...my daughter, Lindsey, came along October 1990...and my youngest, Jordan, in February 1993. My biggest...Expand for more
hobby was bass fishing. As a physical therapist I worked in many different types of settings like hospitals, clinics, schools, and home health. I worked all over Southwest Louisiana for ten years, until I had to stop in 1996 because of my health. I became disabled by a disease called Friedreich's Ataxia (a recessive genetic type of muscular dystrophy). Pam and I got divorced in 1998. I dated a woman on and off for six years after that and even got engaged, but that fell through after Hurricane Rita. Changed my hobby to playing in poker tournaments locally, then Oklahoma, Tunica, and Vegas.
So here I am in 2008. This year has been extremely tough. I started having abdominal pain after Christmas 2007 and after ten days of doctors and emergency room visits, they found my appendix had been ruptured for over a week. Damn near death by then, they did emergency surgery January 8th...spent two days in ICU and 6 weeks in hospital...got extremely weak, had bloodclots, and an irregular heart rythym. Here it is July and I'm still recuperating. Hopefully, this story is to be continued...
