Jody's Story

Life Three years after graduating from high school, I was in Arizona visiting one of my sisters, and met the man of my dreams. We got married and lived in Phoenix for two years. We then moved down to the Ozarks and lived there for two years. I had my first baby girl and then my husband's company moved to KC. We have lived here ever since. (Actually in Independence) I had another daughter two years later and a little boy one year later. I am now the proud grandmother of two darling kids. A 7 year old girl and 3 year old boy from my oldest daughter. My second daughter died 6 years ago from a brain tumor. She was only 19. My son has graduated from college and is trying to find a job in his particular field. Last year I had a heart attack and ended up having 5 by-pass heart surgery. During the surgery I had a stroke that affected my eyesight and I am partially blind. Therefore,I have retired from the Post Office and can no longer drive a car. My husband will retire in two years and we will move back down to our house in the Ozarks and live out our retirement. Well two years have past and I am now living my dream. Both my husband and myself are retired and we are now living down in the Ozarks. It's like a vacation every day. We bought a fifth wheel and are doing a lot of traveling. It's fun to spend the cold winters in Arizona where I have a lot of family. And the hot summers in cool Colorado. The hardest part of leaving the city was leaving my now three grandchildren. After moving down here for a year, my daughter and her family have moved here also and are building a new home close by. So this grandmother is very happy. Being able to wake up every morning to the sound of birds singing rather than traffic honking and sirens wailing is a very pleasant feeling. One that i am enjoying to the fullest. It is 2014 . We are still living down here in the middle of the woods. Our closest neighbor is a half mile away. When you look out the windows you see nothing but the beautiful natre all around. Trees, birds, squirrels, deer. It is marvelous. So peaceful and serene. My granddaughter has gra...Expand for more
duated from high school and will soon be 18. My grandsons are soon to be 14 and 9. They love growing up here in the Ozarks. My husband had an accident on ourq four wheeler last year and had some brain damage. He has lost his short time memory. As long as he still remembers me, I am happy. We are both growing old and sassy and enjoying every day. School After I graduated from Chrisman in '69, I went to UMKC for 1 year. Wanted desperately to become a Phys. Ed. teacher. Messed around too much, got discouraged and ended up going to longview for a year and a half and getting my Associate Degree in Secretarial Science. Fancy words for "secretary". College When I graduated from high school I immediately went to UMKC thinking that I would graduate and become the Phys. Ed teacher that I always wanted to be. I guess I went a little wild for the first time in my life and wasn't quite as serious a student as I should have been. After one year I was discouraged and wanted to quit school. My mom convinced me to go to Longview College and get an "useful" degree in Secretarial Science. So after a year and a half I had my Associate Degree. Workplace I have worked for the Federal Government my entire work career. As soon as I graduated from high school I went to work for Social Security Administration while I was going to college. After I got my degree I took a vacation to Arizona and ended up getting married and living there. I went to work for the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development. After two years we moved back to Missouri and lived in the Ozarks for two years. I worked for Social Security there in Lebanon. When my husband's company moved to KC I went to work for the SSA in KC and then transferred to the Indep. office. I worked there until I had my second baby and quit. (For good I thought) But two years later, after my third baby, I went to work for the Dept of Agriculture in Kansas. I eventually transferred back to SSA. I worked there for two years and then transferred to the Office of Investigations. Worked there a year and transferred to the Post Office where I worked until I retired in 2003.
