Joe's Story
Life
B.S. and M.S. from OSU. Taught math & computer classes at Perkins-Tryon & Drumright High Schools, then to Bartlesville and Technology Coordinator. Currently scheduling & doing teacher tech-support at Holland Hall Upper School, Tulsa, OK. Married to Marilyn since 1978... two children. Active member of Healing Grace Church.
School
Attended Wilson Elementary, Tomlinson Junior High, and Lawton High in Lawton, OK. I was into photography and riding skateboard, was a member of science club, math club and (when qualified) national honor society, but was really more interested in "fitting in" than in grades (there's transcript evidence of this!).
College
BS (math) and MS (education technologies) from Oklahoma State Univ (go Pokes!). Lived on campus 4 yrs (Kerr 12 and Willham South 8) with those 3 years in Willham as 8th floor S.A. Met my bride while at OSU. These were good years. Hard in some ways, but good.
Workplace
I taught high school math for 6 years and burned out... tried my hand at commission sales for 2...Expand for more
years and nearly starved! That business experience and a BUNCH of perspective let me go back to the classroom as a better teacher. Then did 6 more years of classroom (math and computer) while working on a masters in education technologies. That sent me to a 4 year stint as a public school district technology coordinator (central office, no teaching) in a place with no $$$ (just me and a district of 6000+ students in 11 schools to both equip and support). Sanity followed in the form of a private school offer that let me teach 60% of the time, run the scheduling software and promote faculty use of technology. Now (years later) I'm still enjoying it.
Military
I never served, but I REALLY appreciate the sacrifice of those who have in the past and those who do now. I grew up in "an army town" and many of my friends were kids of career military families. What rich & diverse experiences they brought to our otherwise semi-isolated Oklahoma town! THANK YOU to everyone in all branches of service to our great country!
