Colonel (Ret) Joe's Story
I met my wife in a small town where she worked.
My Kids: We have two great kids that make their Mom and I proud. Both have grown up and are respected in the community. Both are doing well. We now have 6 grandkids.
Retired as a Air Force Colonel after 38 years,8 month and 4 days in the military. It's great!
Military
Entered the Air Force in 1968. Couldn't wait until my 4 years were up. Didn't think I would ever be in another military uniform until a friend of mine told me about the guard. What I found (on a try one program) was an organization ever bit as professional and prepared as the active military that I just departed. In some areas more prepared. What was more impressive was that you do everything and more in the guard (in my case the ANG) than you do in the regular Air Force. Every day is a new challenge. everyone. You get most of the benefits of the active military, and build long term relationships at the same time. Who could ask for more. The Airman and Soldiers I associated with on a day to day basis were some of the best you could ever ask to serve with. Retired 7 Jun 06 as a Full Colonel (0-6).
We currently have a 400 acre farm near Overbrook Kansas that keeps me busy throughout the spring-summer-fall. We also have a business that we started about the same time I retired, It is "Double Eagle Golf, Inc." It is doing great and at times keeps me busy. Although we have had our place for some time, with Deb now retired from the Air Force (Brig General) we spend our winters our South Texas home where we enjoy the sun, play golf often and enjoy retired life. Every Sunday morning I have tee number one where I golf with Porfie and friends. Life is great!
