Hi!
I am now retired and live in Placentia, CA. I was born at St. Luke's Hospital, Pasadena, CA (now demolished), on April 3, 1948, to Marion Lee and Virginia May Stapleton. My sister (by another mother), Paricia, was born 3 years later. We lived in Temple City, CA, while Dad worked in East Los Angeles for the U.P. Railroad. Mrs. Searls was my Pre-school teacher. I attended Longden Elementary until the 2nd grade. Then I transferred to First Lutheran, 0f Temple City. In the fifth grade I transferred back to Longden. After Oak Avenue Junior High, I attended High School in Temple City, San Juan Capistrano, and in San Juan Capistrano, and then graduated from San Clemente High School in 1966. BA from USIU, Cal Western Campus, in San Diego in 1970 (B.A.), Humanities Inter-department major. I Served 4 years in the Navy, with a deployment on the USS Edson (DD-946). I was separated on July 11, 1974. I then tried an MA degree program at California State University, Los Angeles, in Philosophy under Dr. Benson. I finally received an M.A. in General Theology (August 1984) from Fuller Seminary. As to civilian jobs, in September 1975 I got a job with SSA. I Transferred to IRS in Carson, CA, in 1981, and then to El Monte's IRS (after phase II Tax Auditor training). In those days, I was living in Temple City at the Islander and then in Monrovia and attending Our Savior Lutheran in Arcadia. I took a tour to the Passion Play, in Germany, in 1980, and then to Palestine, Egypt and Rome, with the Fuller alumni in 1985. I used the same tour company for Israel that I had used for the trip to Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands, and Austria. I was then with the Lutheran Singles Fellowship of Greater Los Angeles. Upon returning from Palestine, I took a Round Dance Class on Thursdays in Carson; the class lasted 2 years, ending the summers of 1987. I enlisted to the USN Reserves, in May 1986. As to marriage, in October 1987 I met Kelly, two weeks after the Round Dance Class ended, at a retreat in Crestline. a Niguel, CA, Appeals Division. We had two sons, Phillip in 1995 and Andrew in 1998. In 1993 I got into a CPA Review Class with Mark, and a Docter of Ministry class with Newport University. On 12/24/1997 I received the Doctor of Ministry degree from the school's board and the state of California's licensing board. 1997 I passed the last part of the CPA exam. I finally got the CPA license in 2003. Retired from the Naval Reserves in 2002, as a Chief Information Systems Technician (ITC). 2 Week tours included the USS Tisdale, Norway, and England (when I also visited Ireland). Today: I am retired: from Civil Service 10/31/2012, from the Navy Reserves 10/1/2002. /Comment: I wish for everyone to know Jesus, as their Lord and Saviour, as their experience allow them. My own background leads me to an Orthodox, Augustinian, Lutheran belief, but everyone needs to find Jesus for themselves. I.e.: "Have you been washed in the blood of the lamb?" As for the birth of Richard Collins:
I was living on campus in D0rm II at Cal Western my Frosh & Sr. years, I was living with Virginia and Patty on Udall, Point Loma, AKA "Town Hall", the other two years. Collin while in the Navy got Gonorrhea four times. Patty used me as a substitute, before her tubes collapsed.
As for finding work:
My first job was at Vons, Capistrano Beach, where I got paid $0.65 to Box Groceries. What I remember most about it is that it was only for one summer..
For those who want a conversion experience:
While in the second grade, I was told, in a vivid dream by someone who spoke from authority that I would be punished if I continued at my present school. Very vivid! The next three years I spent at First Lutheran, Temple City, where I was baptized in May 1956.
In conclusion: I wish the best for everyone: Fair Winds and Following Seas. My best advice is found in the "Gospel in a Nutshell: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that who so ever believes in Him shall not die but have eternal life!" John 3:16.
