John's Story
After eight years at the Ascension Reformatory I went to the Thornton HS Boomer Depository with the majority of my other friends and inmates, where my Art teachers pushed me to apply to go on to the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Chicago instead of working on the line at Maramont Mufflers where I thought I was destined to work after graduation.. t Auckland University and Canterbury University in New Zealand. In 1980 I took a position in the College of Fine Art at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion where I have been teaching ever since and am now heading into my 41st year there. I married Carol in 1989 and have two sons, Satchmo and Buster, We are in the process of planting our annual gardens of flowers and veggies thinking that we will have a great harvest though deep down we know that we are really just filling the back and side yards for the deer and racoon summer buffet. Hopefully they will leave us a couple of tomatoes. All the best to everyone.
