John Brighton:  

School for me is part of my vocation whether supporting our exceptional educators, school secretaries, and administrators with student information and human resources management or attending class. I enjoy the opportunities to visit schools and witness welcoming and engaged schools. I currently attend courses at the University of Guelph co-sponsored by the Ontario Association of School Board Officials specializing in information privacy and human resources. While working towards my degree at Ryerson University I accepted an invitation to join the Golden Key Society recognizing academic excellence at the University. In 2005, I was nominated by The Learning Partnership recognizing Technology Innovation. Though I did not win, I was privileged to be recognized with a group of exceptional technological innovators. My volunteer time has been spent these past 15 years in sports management, coaching and managing hockey and ringette teams. For six years I volunteered on the executive of Pickering Ringette obtaining one of the first Ontario Trillium Foundation grants in sport. I continue to watch and enjoy my adult children play hockey and ringette. The arenas at times can feel like a second home.
