John's Story
Life
Briefly, I am alive and well and living in Gresham, Oregon (just east of Portland) for 23 years. After Syosset High (Â74), two years at Nassau Community College, a bachelorÂs degree from Oneonta, and eight years with a national consulting firm, I headed west. My ex and I had a daughter and three boys, now 23, 21, 19, and nearly 17, respectively. In 2008, my daughter got married, graduated the University of Portland, and blessed me with a grandson.
I still get out and throw a lacrosse ball around now and again. It finally became a spring sport at several area high schools about 8-10 years ago. (Being already overcommited, I turned down coaching opportunities at the time.) I still knock a golf ball around when I can, but haven't shot in the 70's for about 25 years, except on Play Station and Wii games. (I owe my halfway decent golf game to ten years of caddying at the Woodcrest Club back in Syosset, and lots of after-hours golf there and at Bethpage Park.) I played (sometimes) competitive adult soccer (mostly indoors) for about 15 years and decided to retire from it three years ago. Fly fishing with my sons is a blast, but we...Expand for more
don't get out often enough.
I have had my own fund development consulting business for 17 years. In fact, since 1979, I have worked as a contract employee and consultant for over 30 non-profits and helped them raise $150+ million for various building projects and annual appeals. A lot of what I do involves writing, sales and marketing. So, I challenged myself to write a couple non-work related books, which are still works in progress.
I have been a single parent for seven years, and put off dating for much of that time to concentrate on the kids, who are doing great. My brother Jim (Syosset class of '64) has been at the University of New Mexico for 28 years now. (He is married and has a 29-year old daughter.) My parents left Long Island and moved to Oregon in 1987 and were wonderful grandparents. Dad passed away in 1998 and my Mom in 2002. Three years ago, I met (on the job) a wonderful, caring and adorable lady who has changed my life in many ways. Yes, God is good, life is good and there is certainly never a dull moment.
Well, my bio has now been officially updated on August 1st... to be added to again at a later date.
