John's Story
Life
Time passes so quickly - before you know it retirement is here and social security is on the approaching horizon. Life has been so good to us and we have been blessed by our Lord beyond belief. Through thick and thin Denise (Denise Gilpin, class of 72) and I are still married (the date with destiny was 1973) and love each other very much. We have two wonderful grown children (Megan and Nathan) that are married (to Rodger and Jenne respectively) with families of their own (6 gradnchildren to date; Rylee, Hannah, Eric, Jack, Bradley, Bryson) - we try to spend a lot of time with our family. I am a retired Dept of Defense Division Chief, but continue to be invloved in our community by serving as Mayor of our small college town. Since retirement, I have tried different part-time jobs (contractor for the DOD; job coach for disadvantaged folks; working for the PA House of Representatives). Denise works part-time for the county library system as the bookbuggy manager (cute title). In this capacity, she ministers to preschool childre...Expand for more
n and children of migrant workers. I volunteer weekly at the Chaplains office (one of the local hospitals) and visit with patients. I am currently in my second year of classes that I am taking at the Center for Spiritual Formation. I have also been blessed to have the opportuntiy to go on several mission trips since retirement - this year tho I have been sidelined due to cervical spinal surgery (have not driven for months). Just recently, I recently bought a trombone (have not played since high school) -- after I learn to play again, I hope to join a local band and play at community events, nursing homes, etc. Priorities in my life remain: God, Family, Friends. My Hope for the future is secure in that: one day I walk in heaven (tho I am not in a hurry right now) with our Lord, holding hands with my wife, family and friends - and singing praises to our Redeemer. We hope you are well, the wind has been at your back and the road has been kind to you and your family. Denise and I hope to hear from you - Blessings, John and Denise
