John's Story
Life
After high school I went off to Azusa Pacific University in the Los Angeles area. I played football and majored in International Studies with minors in Spanish and Business. My studies took me to Costa Rica, Central America. There I met a beautiful young lady who is now my wife. After graduating from Azusa I returned to Costa Rica, married and lived for 5 years doing a variety of things. In '95 we returned to the states, I joined the military and continued my education earning a masters in education. During this time our first son was born, Matthew Douglas. I also finished Officers Candidate School and started teaching Spanish at the middle school level. Our second child, Kristi Ariel was born in November of '00.

me since I was in an unfavorable teaching position and welcomed the chance to go. However, being away from the family for a year was not going to be easy. With my company not mobilizing I decided to leave the school I was at and have been teaching in various 3rd grade assignments. Once again Uncle Sam has called and I will be on active duty starting in October. After taking some classes and training locally I will be going to Afganistan and train their army for a year.
We currently live in Turner, just outside of Salem. Matthew goes to West Salem Language Acadamy and Patricia is able to stay at home and take care of Kristi and helps run our business.
It is unbelieveable that this year we will have been out of high school for 20 years! I have been able to keep up with only a few people but always enjoy hearing what everyone is up to.
