John's Story
Life
Boy oh boy, can we say " let's see the
world". Indeed I did. After graduating
from High School in 1985, I was a
student at Kent State University in
Ohio. Dreamed of being an airline pilot.
Well, that didnt work out, so I joined
the Air Force a few months later. After
having my belly full of Stateside life,
I volunteered for overseas duty and
never looked back since..I'll never
forget the day I filled out my
"dreamsheet" at the McGuire AFB CBPO
office, that truly changed my life
forever. Went through so much, from the
evacuation of our base in Turkey of US
dependent families and the Gulf War,
Scud missile attack warnings, Patriot
misfires, the Kurdish Refugee Airlift,
then on to Korea and then Guam (5
typhoons and a huge earthquake 8.2 in
August 1993) Well, it was a good run for
7 years but the darker side of politics
in the military got increasingly too
much to stomach any further and I got
out. After I got out in 1994 I yearned
to go back overseas though. Once this
gets in your system it doesnt go away
easily (G) Little did I know that I'd
get to go back so soon afterwards. I'm
now married to a Chinese woman and have
a lovely daughter, Caroline Marie. I
teach English and do business consulting
here in Southern Taiwan. Was here during
Taiwan's massive 7.7 earthquake in 1999
as well but all is quiet now. I plan on
opening a new business with an eye on
creating a chain of them next year in
Tainan City; after we get our new house
built. I've been a very lucky guy.
4/2008. My how it's time for an update and re-edit.
Wow how much has changed!
America's Most Darkest Hour is over. The Bushes and Cheneys are gone. Thank GOD!
I'm VERY happy now that President Obama has won. The reaction here in Taiwan was stunning on Election Night {Day after here}. People were coming up to me on the streets and giving me High 5's! I wore my Obama'08 t-shirt my mother sent me for over a week nonstop. Was such a PROUD time to witness it from overseas. Now, if only the discredited GOP would just go away. Really. Can they pretty please? I've long ago tired of their narrow-minded, attle-brained, IQ of a cooked potato ...Expand for more
talking points. Really I am.
They've got nothing in terms of credibility at all. A wicked, scheming and conniving bunch of charlatans. I will be glad when any of the Bush Cabal is frog-marched into the Hague and put on trial for what they did. And may they disappear into a jail for life. My hopes for that are a work in progress as the same Spanish Judge that went after Pinochet is trying to do the same for Bushie and his collection of rejects. Hope is a very good thing! ;-)
This collection of criminals sat on its arse and let a city drown back in 2005. Started an illegal war, deregulated the Banking industry to the level of letting anyone with a pulse be able to sign for a mortgage, Spent themselves like a drunk on payday Friday for 8 years on their military adventures, transferred the wealth of the poor and middle income groups up to the top 5%, and then wrecked the World Economy along with the USA's, ruined a reputation, destroyed the rule of law. Begone GOP! They "Katrina'd" not just New Orleans, but the whole world. Just payback for all of that will be quite a nasty ***** to pay. Well deserved too. Bush and his Merry Gang of Banksters need to be put away into a jail for the rest of their lives. What they did overall, was criminal. No doubt of that in my mind.
Obama has restored my faith and hope in America after such a LONG time. I pray for the guy and his family every day. He's the right man at the right moment to do this tough job. I can only pray that we make it okay through the very stark economic collapse that's happened. Here in Taiwan, exports have fallen through the floor, almost 50% negative since September 2008. I knew the "tsunami" unleashed on September 15th, 2008 when Lehman Brothers collapsed would unleash a hell-storm of tough times. I said to many of my adult students that it would take around 3 months for the effects to be measured here and sure enough, December 2008, things started going down the toilet economically. Everyone here is affected in a major way. I'm just so glad my mortgage is paid in full, as is my car. We took care of those years ago and own them completely.
