Howdy, classmates:
Well, I do believe that I've discovered the upside to having gone to seven different public schools. Only had to wait 30 years for the internet to catch up! Now I'm trading stories with people I remember, people I almost didn't remember, and people whom I really should have met back then. I'd be happy to hear from anyone who ever wondered what became of Kemner . . . just drop me a line.
After high school I went to the University of Missouri - Kansas City, worked for a couple of years as a laboratory tech, then went back to get a degree in microbiology at the University of Wisconsin and Michigan State (yet more schools). lp to direct an infectious disease research center there. I can't say enough about this part of the country; it's a beautiful place.
I have a son who's 13, from a marriage of 17 years that's coming to an end at present. I'm pretty much a 'no regrets' guy -- though the past year has put me to the test -- and I have to say that I'm doing all right. As one of my friends puts it, "It's a big club." And a point like this is a natural one for a little bit of reflection. I feel as if I'm looking both forward and backward at the same time (pause here to imagine what that would look like to actually do). Thirty years puts a little perspective on what really matters after all. And I've got lots of college sweatshirts, to boot.
