John's Story

Life Since graduation at NCHS in 1966 I went to flight school at Embry- Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach FL. I received my private, commercial and multi-engine pilots licences and was hired by United Airlines to start flight training in Denver CO. But , Before I could enjoy my new found career I wound up as a guest of the US Army for two wonderful years .( Ft Leonard Wood, MO, Ft Benning GA, Ft Polk , LA, Saigon, Ft Benjamin Harrison, IN, Ft Sheridan, IL ) Just in case any of you served there at the same time . I returned to college at Southern IL Univ in Carbondale, IL, on the governments expense. One because they were paying for it, and Secondly, it was one of the biggest party schools in the country at the time . If your going to study, why not have fun, has always been my motto . As the need for new pilots was limited, due to the influx of war pilots,I took undergraduate business classes. Graduate work at Northwestern University at Kellogg in Evanston, IL . Married in 1974. We weremarried for 35 Years before our unfortunate divorce a few years ago. We still live close and remian good friends. I have three Children, Kevin 38 ( Who works with me ), Erin 35 ( A Court Stenographer and Brian 31 ( A Computer Engineer ). Kevin lives in Minneapolis , Brian lives in Chicago and Erin still here in Florida, do. No marriages as of yet .. and no grandchildren . Now , I don't even care if they get married, just give me some grandchildren .. I Worked as a Regional Sales Manager for Kraft Foods in Chicago , National Sales Mgr for Standard Brands which later became Nabisco, also in Chicago. Then,National Sales Manager & Vice President of Sales & Marketing for PET Inc in St Louis for 13 yrs. The company was sold to Pillsbury and then again later to General Mills. I decided to take my stock option marbles and run and became a Stockbroker , Commodity and Option Trader at Dean Witter Reynolds, Inc in Rolling Meadows, IL. I continued to commute between work and home in St Louis. I Resided in Naperville for a number of years before moving to St Louis for 10 years, then evetually to Florida where I remain to this day . I still return often to see family and friends. My Sister Maureen recently passed away and my mother Terry passed on my Birthday March 7th a few years ago . My other sisters Linda, Kathleen and Colleen are all doing well. I have lived in Ft Lauderdale Fl for the past 20 years, where I started my own commodity trading company with my son Kevin. My daughter Erin is on the payroll in name only, we are all still waiting for her to show up and actually do something .. ( Since, she has graduated as a court reporter but still remains on MY payroll for some reason ) Only daughter syndrome .. I'am 67 Years old,in relatively good health, just the normal wear and tear of life we all no doubt have . I continue to fly occasionally and have finished my helicopter lessons , something I had always wanted to do which remained on my bucket list. I recently obtained my 100 Gross Ton Sea Captains Licence and working on my 300 Gross Ton Masters Licence. I am taking classes for scuba certification. I am a certified Diver which I got for my Birthday a few years ago and finally decided to do it Why ? I don't have a clue, just thought it might be fun and Holly got it for me for Christmas. Originally purchased as an investment to Charter, the 143 ft Richmond Yacht has been a great deal of fun. Just sold it this past year and purchased a 150 ft boat to charter an...Expand for more
d use for our own use . It was a big surprise when we got notification that someone had seen it at its Pier 66 berth and wanted to use it for two months in the movie " Fools Gold " . A nice gift from the Gods payment wise . I posted some of the pictures, but, unable to put too many on due to legal restrictions. We had to use studio approved pictures . It has become more fun to be on and the Charter business has suffered some in this economy. Since the divorce, I call the boat home, but, recently secured a condo on the beach. I enjoy being on the boat as much as I can just for the solitude and just pretty much doing nothing when and where you want to do it . My other hobby over the years has been screen writing, which is odd , as I hated anything to do with creative writing in school. Now, I work on movie scrips, on films I am sure many of you have seen . Go figure ! my classmates sitting munching popcorn and Milk Duds , listening to MY lines in movies . I just finished a screenplay ( One of about 15 ) I sent into the studios and just NOW, has it made it up to the top guy. Keeping my fingers crossed . Good Heavens, where has all the time gone since 1966 ? I would love to hear from ANY of you, even if we did not know each other well in High School. I have taken some Community Pictures of Naperville which I hope bring back some fond memories to those who do not get back all that often . I was a pretty low key individual in High School. But I do remember amost everyone in our class for one reason or another . I guess I was a late bloomer .. Most of my friends lived in Lisle and Downers Grove and I seemed to have an endless stream of after school and summer jobs. I am a bit puzzled as to all the people who are on Classmates, but, never talk to one another, leave a picture or profile of what they are or have done. If you feel like connecting I would love to hear from you and promise I will respond. .. I would love to hear from you . Maybe come on down and we will cruise around .. God Bless Jack Lehnen Answer to some of the questions Classmates asked : I always wanted to be a Airline Pilot when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a stupid idea. As it turns out, they were somewhat right . HOW DO YOU BLOW OFF STEAM ? DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO RELAX. I dont I just get under the comforter and go to sleep . IF IAM GOING TO WORK SOMEWHERE, I NEED : If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have Competent, Co Workers, and Nice Surroundings to be able to deal with the day-to-day. DID YOU HAVE A HERO ? TALK ABOUT WHERE YOUR INSPIRATION COMES FROM For some odd reason Danny Thomas who I was privileged to know briefly and started St Judes Hospital. I am very involved in it to this day and the good works he and it has done over the years with kids .. THE ONE PERSON FROM MY PAST WHO I WOULD MOST LIKE TO SEE AGAIN IS : The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is My Father , because He passed away suddenly when I was only 27 and he missed many of the milestones of my life and we never had that father / son relationsip I have with my boys . I think we both missed out on alot and it would be nice to have a " do over ".. SPORTS, REALITY, TV, PETS, SHARE YOUR OBSESSIONS The Cubbies of Course ..and, the new boat . PARENTS ? SHARE WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED FROM YOUR KIDS . I have learned patience from my kids . I love to see them as they grow. None of them have married as yet, so , we still have that ahead of us to look forward too.

Always good to get your madera wine in madera and head to town on the local taxi. It’s quick and you fly down the street in a Wooden sled. A bit unusual but the two mile trip goes pretty fast .
