John's Story
Our 50th Reunion on September 28-30, 2012s an incredibly wonderful event, attended by almost 130 people including almost 80 classmates. We also had a smaller 60th on October 22, 2022 at my house - about 20 classmates from the Winter and Summer '62 classes. Everyone had a great time catching up and remembering our days at Franklin. Hopefully, enough of us are around in 2032 for a 7oth - fingers (and toes) crossed!
Life
After Franklin, I attended USC (in the Trojan Marching Band, of course) where I majored in Political Science. After USC, I went to law school at UC Berkeley (yes, Berkeley in the 60's!). I've been a lawyer in Los Angeles since 1969 (now that's scary, isn't it), and have been a shareholder and Vice President of my current law firm since 1981, during which we've grown from 7 lawyers to 38! (Yes, I'm still working - keeps me young (at least I think so.). My primary specialty areas are real estate, business law, and health care (hospitals, et...Expand for more
c.). I also volunteer time as a Judge Pro Tem for the L.A. Superior Court, and as a fee arbitrator for the L.A. County and San Fernando Valley Bar Associations (I'm chair of the SFVBA program). and have twice won the President's Award for that bar association. I'm married (now 10 years) to a wonderful lady, Tracy, who was a great help and hostess for our Reunion Committee and our farewell BBQ at our house. I have one married daughter, who lives in Sacramento and now has four children, and a step-daughter who has three, so I get to play grandpa. I am a two-time cancer survivor, have a stent (fortunately never a heart attack), a cervical titanium plate, and a new metal hip, but none of which keeps me down.- I guess I can take a licking and keep on ticking, as John Cameron Swazey described a watch. I miss our classmates who are no longer with us, particularly Judy Eccles and Marilyn Miller, with whom I went to elementary school all the way through Franklin.
