John's Story
Life
Hello everybody! My life adventure started in 1980 after High School graduation. My first Career started in a place in Fort Leonardwood, Missouri for Basic Training in D-4-3. (Blue Devils). Then I was placed on a plane and sent to Serria Vista, Arizona ( Fort Hauchuca) to Become an 96B Intelligence Analyst. Upon graduation in the top of my class, I was assigned to the HHC 104th MI CEWI Bn, G2, 4th Infantry Division as a Military Intelligence Analyst in the Division Command Post Forward. I spent three year in the 4th Infantry Division in Colorado. I was placed on orders in 1983 for HHC 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Kitzegen, Germany. I spent most of this time in Europe living in the woods (3 weeks out of the month) and going to wine festivals. Eldest son was born in Wertzburg, Germany during this tour. From Germany, somehow I got an inter-theater transfer to Hawaii in 1984 to the INSCOM Theater Intelligence Center (ITIC-PAC). This tour sent me to many counties in the Pacific (Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Brunei, ect). Made many friends that I have lost contact with over the years. In 1988, my time was up and I went back to Fort Carson, Colorado to the S2, 3rd Armor Brigade. I saw lots of field time and the Pinion Canyon Training Center while in this Assignment. In late 1990, I was sent to Soto Cano AB in Honduras to work with JTF-B in the J2 as a watch officer. Lived life large in a hooch (B-52, The Bomber). Our hooch hosted every weekend BBQ of a cow and all the Jungle juice you could drink. Our balcony provided for excellent Jell-O Diving until some knuckle head went and broke his arm and the Commander cut it down with a Chain Saw. Traveled though the jungles of Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua (deactivating the ContraÂs), Costa Rica, to Panama to support Operation Just Cause. The needs of the Army changed fast and Suddenly I was put on alert for Iraq (the big sand...Expand for more
box). After Desert Shield and Storm, I was put on orders for Korea. I arrived to Korea in the town of Peongtek (Camp Humphrey) in 1992. The CSM and Commander had never had anyone on the DSPO (Directorate of Security, Plans and Operations) with my training. We developed a new higher standard for intelligence in the Support Group. In 1993 I was on my way back to Fort Carson. This time I was placed in the ASAS with SFC Sufford. Develop a Battle Damage Assessment program. It turned out to be the best in the Army, and is now the standard. Then came the Dayton Peace Accord. That Christmas in 1995, I was on my way to Bosnia, Via Fort Benning . I was placed in a Intelligence Analyst slot of so I thought. They really wanted a Medical Intelligence Analyst, Does water testing and epidemeology (Study of germs and Viruses . Before long, was help direct aircraft from other country, planning earthquake assistance in Zadar, Search and Rescue Operations in Dubrovnik, and inspection hospitals though out the theater, Directly coordinating with the Croatia Minister of Health. Traveled to Tazar, Hungry and Bosnia a lot. I depart former Yugoslavia in December of 1996, going back to Fort Carson. I was assigned to the Installation Security Office and tasked to Organize, Plan and Develop an Intelligence Support Element (ISE) for Fort Carson, now that 4ID was moving to Fort Hood Two months after my return from Yugoslavia, I learned a lot about the Medical field during my ordeal. The recovery was slow but a male nurse saved my life. In August 1998, I was transferred to Special Liaison Detachment, US Delegation to NATO in Brussels, Belgium. While stationed in Belgium, I visited Poland, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Austria, etc. Everything in Europe was fabulous! Currently, I am a full time student at North Central State College stating my clinical portion (final part) of my RN Degree program.
