John's Story

I spent all but my senior year at Charles Bender High School in Humble, TX. I spent my senior year At Southwest Bible Institute (SBI) in Waxahachie TX and graduated with the class of 1955. After graduating I worked various jobs until joining the US Coastguard in 1957. After boot camp in Cape May, NJ I was sent to Key West, FL for Sonar Training. After finishing the training I was sent to New London, CT and served as a Sonarman on the US Owasco a (weather patrol cuter) in the North Alantic. Upon my discharge in 1959 I worked for a while for Robert H Ray, Inc on a seismograph crew win west texas. I met my wife to be at my Dad's (Rev JW (Jimmy McClellan) Church ( Burbank Assembly of God in Houston). I then moved back to Houston and we were Married Sept. 2, 1960. We had three wonderful children, John Patrick (Rick), Howard Wayne, and Hollie Rena. Around 1961 I went to work for IBM and was a service engineer on Main Frame Computers. After a few years with IBM, I was offered more money to go to work for a computer service company as a product specialist. After a while IBM monopoly was broken allowing anyone to build peripheral equipment to connect to I BM's main frame and they would pay a computer service company (such as I was working for) to do the repair and maintenance on their equipment A lot of this equipment was poorly engineered and didn't brake, they just did not work to st...Expand for more
art with. Thus there were endless hours spent, all hours of the day trying to fix (make them work). I finally said enough is enough and got out of computer service going to work on a Seismograph Boat for Texaco for 6 month until I could find something better. I went to work for M. W. Kellogg (an engineer/construction firm) . I programmed the emergence shutdown computer for the refineries they built. I did this until retiring in 2007. My hobbies were golf, radio controlled model airplanes and racing Sprint Cars and Midget Race Cars. After retiring from racing real race cars I raced on-line with a simulator I built. The league I raced in was made up of real race car drivers. In the Midget league I raced with Christopher Bell (he gave me his setups) who was in the final four for the Nascar Cup Series Championship last year. I raced on line until I lost my simulator in the 1917 Harvey flood. Now at 86 going on 87 (on Sept 11, 2023) my wife ask me "What are you going to do today". I say "Nothing". She says "You did that yesterday". I say "Well, I didn't get through" LOL. Let me leave a though with you: "Yesterday was history, Tomorrow is the future, but Today is the Future, that's why is called THE PRESENT" So when I say my Prayers at night I say "Thank you Lord for one more Present. I know I've had more than my share but I sure would like to have a few more". Lord Bless Everyone
