John's Story
Life
I've gotten to travel the country, and I settled on 2 places where I wanted to live, and I've lived in both. New England was wonderful, the only thing that made me leave was not being able to find a job. I moved to Washington state in 1990, and I absolutely love it here. I got married in 1992, unfortunately, it didn't work out, we seperated in 1998. I always wanted to have kids, but life doesn't always work the way we want it to.
Workplace
I was always into computers, it became my life's work. I lucked into a job working in a restaurant in Pittsburgh as the office/payroll manager because the payroll was on computer, and the new owner didn't know how to work the thing. :) From there, I worked tech support for a computer maker for a few years, then got a travel...Expand for more
ing job as a troubleshooter for a major online service at the time. That job had me constantly on the road, I got to see the whole country, and it let me decide where I wanted to live. I'd narrowed it down to 2 places, and when that job ended, I moved to New England where I lived and worked for almost 7 years. The job market fell apart in New England, so I decided to try my other favorite place.. the northwest. I've been living and working in Washington state since 1990, and I love it here. For the last 9 years, I've worked for a university computer science department. It may very well be my last job in life. I'm surrounded by great people in a great environment, and I'm on the leading edge. I get to see the research that is going on, and what is coming for the future.
