John's Story
Because I did not graduate Roswell High School there are many I do not remember. Quitting in the 10th grade to join the U.S. Army I served three years stationed at Fort Bliss, TX. I was deployed on field maneuvers for weeks at a time and to southern Florida during the Cuban crisis. My first marriage ended in divorce about a year after my discharge from the Army. In May 1965 I married my present wife, Carolyn and we just celebrated our 49th anniversary. My first daughter Tammy lives in Florida near her mother. In my present marriage our first child John was born in 1970 and our daughter Kristi was born in 1972. In 1971 I joined the U.S.A.F. as Sergeant E-4 and six months later was assigned to a NATO assignment at Hq. AFCENT in Brunssum, The Netherlands where we stayed four years as I worked as a microwave communications depot level electronics repair specialist. On return to the states we we stationed at MacDill AFB Tampa, FL from 1976-78, and I cross trained as a communication project manager. In 1978 we were assigned to another NATO assignment at Aviano AB, Italy where I worked as a communications project manager. After three years we were assigned to the U.S.A.F. Academy at Colorado Springs assigned to the communication squadron as a communications project manager. The next year we were reassigned to Ramstein AB, West Germany spending four years there as the NCOIC of the plans and programs department for The Air For...Expand for more
ce European Broadcasting Squadron (AFEBS) until our rotation back to the states to Pease AFB, NH as NCOIC of the communications squadron plans and programs department, where I retired after having a heart attack. After military retirement we lived in Roswell, NM and Midland,TX working as a computer systems manager and senior network systems analyst. In 1997 I accepted employment as a computer specialist at the GS11 level for the National Park Service at Hot Springs, AR. After heart surgery in 1998 I was forced into disability retirement from the NPS in 1999. Through the years I have had continued heart problems and now have eleven stents. Thank goodness for modern medical technology. After 21 moves we have made Hot Springs our home. Through the years we have enjoyed everywhere we have lived and the experiences of different cultures. We are members of the church of Christ and are faithful attenders at every worship service and many related activities. Christ's church is our central and most important social activity. Carolyn's family is my family and all siblings are very close. Carolyn is the youngest of 13 children, raised on a farm in Atkins, Arkansas. My son is the owner of many Kubota dealerships in northwest Arkansas and northeast Oklahoma. He gave us two wonderful grandchildren, a boy and girl. Kristi is a cardiac nurse and lives in Atkins, AR. She has given us three wonderful grandchildren, two girls and a boy.
