Workplace
I currently work in Vegas for a gaming company. Outside of Vegas I am pretty sure the owners are not very well known, but the Herbst family businesses are pretty ubiquitous inside Nevada. I do customer service, which takes me all over the city. I have a fun time driving and being out away from the shop. All-in-all the job has it's ups and downs. Although my job is not likely to change a whole lot, it keeps me busy, and there's a real challenge to it as well. Doing it well is not at all an easy task, and I take a lot of pride in my work. Prior to this company I helped manage a gas station in Illinois, and before that did various cashiering jobs. Didn't think I would enjoy doing that kind of work, but I took my friends advice and went to work with him. I enjoyed the routine, as well as the challenges of it, and the rest as they say is history. I did some security work, but not much else worth mentioning. Basically a "blue collar" kind of guy. Not much else to say about this part of my life, lol.
Military
Hmmm.. My brother was in the Air Force and I decided it would be a great thing to follow in his footsteps. I was initially going to enter the Navy since Great Lakes NTC was literally in the next town south, but I changed my mind so I could have the s...Expand for more
ummer off. I went open contract and got my first choice, which was medical service specialist. I didn't have a great time at boot camp, but no one really does, do they? I was just glad I passed, lol. I was really excited to be going overseas for my first assignment. 'Get to see a bit of the world' was my way of thinking. Wasn't exactly outgoing, and a bit of a misfit as well, but I made a few friends, and I enjoyed the experience a great deal. My next assignment was to Carswell AFB in Ft Worth, Texas. Much different experience from Germany. Long story short, I was getting pretty stressed out toward the end of my contract. I decided to see if I could switch jobs, but nothing came up, so I got my discharge. Went through a long series of Joe jobs which made me consider going back into the military. After a few tries, I made it.. into the Navy Reserves. Yep. The Navy. Not much to say about that time. The weekend duty once a month was pretty boring stuff. I have been out of the Reserves for years I think. I like being able to bring up to all the retirees I meet on my current job that I can claim representation in 2 different services. I can say I was really blessed by having all that military experience, and I would recommend the services to any young man or woman.
