John's Story

Class of '65 started in'62 at Hayward High School. From the '62 Agrarian year book. Remember the black and gold concrete H on the hill behind the science building? It seemed to change colors weekly. Our principal was Don Oakes. Remember the majestic white buildings with their greek columns? Paulita Bacich was the Dean of girls. Anthony Ochoa was the Dean of boys. Classes included Agriculture, Business Education(typing, shorthand, office machines), Fine Arts, Homemaking(girls could take class for 4 years and learn food prep.,tailoring, tricks of sewing), Industrial Arts and P.E. Remember the Fruit-O-Matic apple machines. Freshman class officers-Margot Poole, Michaela Poole, Gina Goode, and Marlene Randall. There was the "Big Sister" tea to acquaint the freshman girls with the school and its RULES. Walt Fritschner was the Fall student body president. Pat Shepherd was the Spring student body president. Now it's 1963 and our school name has changed to Foothill. The yearbook was the Varangian. Our principal was M. Dale Lambert. Some of the faculty you may remember were Mrs. Horowitz, Coach Roach, Mrs. Halverson, Coach Richardson, Coach Papachristos, Mr. Delver, Mr. Wyckoff, Mrs. Hogerheide, Mr. Silverman, Mr. Barnhart, and others. The class pictures look like they were taken on the bleachers in the gym. They were taken in groups of about 15 with no other explanation. Some of the students on the "Student Council" were the lovely Donna Phillips, Janice Boucher, Sandi Geyer, and others. On the "Rally Club" were Donna, ...Expand for more

Two of the "Dances" we had during the year was the Leprechan Twist and the Hillbilly Hop. Sports were popular in '63.
