Ok, not exactly true but my childHOOD memories are there, growing up in Boyle Height we all have a story, I'm one of 8 kids we live in a one bedroom house on Evergreen, my father was a heroin addict my mother raised us on welfare the best she could she gets big props for her efforts(God rest her soul) we didn't have lunch at school until the free lunch program was instated Breakfast was usually oatmeal and dinner was what ever we could afford with rice and beans, we had worn-out faded jeans with holes many years before it was in style I was caught in the middle of a gang war between white fence and flats at wabash park, that week the fences and window guards where installed and remain there till this day the same goes with all parks in East LA, before the East LA riots Roosevelt high school was an open campus no fences no locks. I came inches of a bullet while attending the Salesian high carnival, that wasn't the first time a bullet zip by my ear. So when I joke about living a dying in East LA you can see how close I was to it and knowing this was the faith of some. I know some of you share this same s...Expand for more
tory Maybe this was one reason I waited so long to have children I'm now in my fifties I have a 8 yr. old son and a 10 yr. old daughter they will know this story and I will teach them not to hate because I believe this is the reason for all that goes bad in this world. with all that, I can still look back and remember my friends and the fun we had playing dodge ball, Ping-Pong, Sports night, baseball, Football and taking pride in our school esp. the Garfield Roosevelt game. I am a Photographer I've been taking pictures professionally since 1978 while attending East LA College I worked for TELACU, Parks and Rec., then Landed the job at NBC Universal I'm now on my 30th year and still loving it. Being a photographer has opened my eyes and mind to so many things its afforded me to travel to places like China, Russia, Armenia, Puerto Rico, Italy, Finland, and most of the USA. especially backpacking in the wilderness hiking 60mi from Independents to Lone Pine, CA. across the western divide to the top of mount Whitney's 14,986ft summit I also serve on the advisory board committee for the photo department at ELAC. Well that sums it up for my bio in closing, using a little irony I can say I shot my way out of East LA using a camera. I truly believe life is about choices and making the right ones that benefit you, your love ones, friends, and people in general. Remember hate is learned be mindful of what you say and how you conduct your self especially in front of children.
