john's Story

It's difficult to write a 45 year biography using several paragraphs. After graduating Central in 1967, I attended the University of Pittsburgh. I was very lucky to draw a high number in the draft lottery and avoided Vietnam. I graduated Phi Beta Kappa and received the University'™s MM Culver Award, presented annually to the outstanding Mathematics major. I attended Pennsylvania State University graduate school and received my Master'™s degree in 1973. I then worked at J&L Steel Corporation for 7 years as an Industrial Engineer. I received my degrees only to occasionally work very near coke ovens, blast furnaces and open hearth furnaces wearing a burner's jacket and a hard hat. I relocated to Malibu del Rey, CA in 1980 seeking a brighter future. I worked 32 years there and in Arizona. First at Hughes Helicopters, who was then acquired by McDonnell Douglas who was then acquired by Boeing. Our Culver City location closed in 1986 and the Company re-located me to our new location in Mesa, Arizona. Just some of my positions over this period were: Senior Industrial Engineer, Section Manager Cost & Budgeting, Section Manager Master Scheduling, Manager Program Planning and Department Manager of Industrial Engineering with 150 Industrial Engineers reporting to me through 6 Sectional Managers. I retired in February 2013 after 39 ye...Expand for more
ars of essentially continuous employment. In 1998, a friend of mine started Rage in the Cage ( RITC ) a mixed martial arts ( ie, œcage fighting ) organization. I joined him, as what started as a hobby, as the Operations Manager and Match Maker. In 2003, I took Joe Riggs to the Netherlands and was in his corner when he fought a mma match in K-1. My Rage in the Cage hobby turned into a second income. I retired from RITC in June 2014 when RITC was sold. During my tenure, I was the match maker of record for 174 events encompassing over 2000 bouts and 3000 fighters. During this period I sent 49 fighters to the UFC. I did receive offers from other organizations to be their match maker but at 65 it was time to fully retire. On the personal side, I played the field for 30 years and finally married after age 50. Before 60, I was on my third marriage but finally got it RIGHT. My lovely wife Suzie and I will be together for eternity. I choose to never have children and have no regrets with my decision. My wife and I relocated to a retirement community in Gold Canyon, Arizona in 2011 and now enjoy a life of leisure. We both love animals and enjoy traveling. We try hard to maintain an active life style. Wishing all my classmates and their families happiness and good health. God Bless, John Petrilli, class of 1967 ( Oct 2014 )
