John's Story

I live in Hilton Head, South Carolina. I have three children and four grandchildren. My wife of 41 years passed several years ago. Now I am trying to move on. I play Piano and Guitar. My other hobbies include macro photography (see me on Flickr as DrPhotoMoto) and gardening. I will always value the excellent education and the fabulous times I had at Stepinac. After my graduation in 1968 I attended Manhattan College for two years and then transferred to Lamar University in Texas where I got a BS in Physics in 1970, and a MS in Chemistry in 1972. I then attended Texas A&M and completed work for a Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1977. In 1976 I...Expand for more
applied to medical school and was accepted to UTMB in Galveston. I graduated in 1980 and completed my residency at UTMB in 1983. Directly after graduation I moved with my wife and three children to North Carolina to work in a needy area as repayment for my college loans. I ended up staying where I settled. I had a private internal medicine practice for 30 years but gave that up 7 years ago and went to work for First Health of the Carolinas. I retired in December of 2016 and moved to South Carolina shortly afterwards. You can find my flickr website by entering drphotomoto into Google. I am on facebook but I don't look at that too often.

Geese are fun to watch. They are very protective of their young and will jump on you if you get near their nests.
Doves are just beautiful.
I never tire of watching and hearing the Tufted Titmouse. They can be very entertaining. They like to scold me when I watch them eat from the feeder I have filled with seed. Thats kind of funny.
Watching this Heron walk was quite funny.
And don't think for a minute they don't watch us!
Some birds are just too cute like this Ruby Crowned Kinglet.
This little green beauty is called Juniper Hairstreak. Notice the little hairs or tails that are designed to fool predators as to which end is the head.
The shimmering blue of the Pipevine Swallowtail is a wonder to behold and one of the prettier sights in my garden. That blue iridescent color is produced in the same way soap bubbles can reflect colors. The process is cal
The Tiger Swallowtail is always a gorgeous site. I edited this photo to emphasize its beauty.
The closeness of these two is not accidental. The male has joined the female who is busy feasting on thistle nectar. Notice he is not drinking nectar. Look closely and you will see he is giving her a little hug with his

My friend here has decided to enter politics. He is equipped with boxing gloves and fangs so I have great hopes for his success. The numerous appendages are a bit of a worry as they may tend to wander.

Tonight this asteroid will fly by earth. It is fittingly called the Halloween Asteroid. Photo taken using the National Science Foundation’s 1,000-foot (305-meter) Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. Happy Halloween!
