Jon's Story
Life
Graduated high school from Maywood Public High School in Nebraska in 1969. Got an Associates Degree in Electronics from Mid Plains Technical College in 1971. Spent four years in the Navy. Boot camp in San Diago, ET "A" school in Treasure Island, Crypto repair school in Mare Island, then went to the Uss Wabash, AOR-5. Spent the next three years on the Wabash, except for a few months when I went back to Mare Island for more crypto school. Survived two west pacs with many memories, some of which I dont talk about. ha ha. It was a trip and a half with lots of crazy and good people. Returned to Nebraska in 1977, short time later went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad as and electrician, spent 10 years there. Then worked for 10 years as the chief for a local television station. After getting it set up be run by remote hookups, they didnt need anyone to take care of the place so I then got into the Fire and Security Indurstry and work now mainly inspecting fire alarm systems, cctv systems, security s...Expand for more
ystems, sound systems and so on and so on. Have been doing this for about 4 years now. In the mean time, I have been on the local volunteer fire department for about 17 years now, and the local volunteer ambulance squad for 16 years. Was on and advisory board for several years for EMS operations in Nebraska. Was fairly active in the local VFW for about 8 years, serving as the post quartermaster for about 7 of those years, at the same time, I was district quarter master for the VFW for about 4 years. My job keeps me on the move and so have had to give up on being very active in the VFW. I am an amateur radio operator, call sign is N0GRB, and talk to people around the world via ham radio. I have been married for 32 years, and have two daughters, one is 22 and senior in college, the younger one is 19 and works as a Cabela's phone catalog operator and she has no idea what she wants to do with her life yet. Well, I ramble on to much, would like to hear from any of the guys from the Wabash circa 1973 to 1976.
