Jon's Story
Life
Jon Duncan is an attorney who is the General Counsel of the Housing Authority of Cook County, Illinois.
Before working at the Housing Authority, he was a litigation attorney concentrating in civil cases, including labor relations, real estate, civil rights and consumer fraud cases in trial and appellate courts. He also served as an arbitrator for the Court Annexed Arbitration Program of the Circuit Court of Cook County.
He is the principal percussionist for the Chicago Bar Association Symphony Orchestra.
Jon has serve on the bicycle trails subcommittee of Chicago Mayor's Bicycle Advisory Committee. He represented bicycling advocacy groups in an important bicycle safety case before the Illinois Supreme Court in 1998, and he received the Important Cog Award from the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation in 1999 for his advocacy work on behalf of bicyclists.

Jon's 10th great-grandfather. As a result of this lineage, Jon is the half 4th cousin, six times removed, of the 12th U.S. President Zachary Taylor, who also descended from Isaac Allerton, and the 5th cousin, 3 times removed, of the 32nd President, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who descended from Allerton and Degory Priest.
Jon is a past chairman of the Media Law Committee of the Illinois State Bar Association and of
the Communications Law Committee of the Chicago Bar Association. He is a former Washington, D.C. editor for Institutional Investor magazine, where he covered securities regulation and macroeconomics. He received the Society of Professional Journalists' First Amendment Award in 1989, in recognition of his continuing efforts to preserve and strengthen freedom of the press and First Amendment rights.
Jon was added to the National Registry of Who's Who in 2001 and was listed in Who's Who in America in 2021.
Jon is married to Patricia Kelly (a DePaul University law school classmate) and enjoys sailing, bicycling, hiking and camping.
