Jon's Story
Life
After my divorce in Pittsburgh, PA and being laid off from Moog Inc., as a Field Engineer, I moved back to my home in Yorkshire, NY. If anyone remembers Rizzo's, well that's Yorkshire. Since I was eligible for an early retirement from Moog I took it. However, I still worked for awhile as a electrician/mechanic for Certainteed Inc. in Buffalo, NY. I again retired for about 10 years, however, the only consistency in life is change. I was working as a school bus driver up until May 2015. Again, the unexpected happen. I had a hart attack and open hart surgery. I am now on disability because I cannot pick up more than 20 lbs. until about November of this year. That is unless my cardiologist changes his mind.
I share my home with my oldest daughter (herself divorced), two grandsons (who are now 22 and 19 years old ), and three cats. Thank god there are no more dogs, swans, geese, ducks, chickens, steers, sheep, rabbits, dagos and horses ( that's another story in itself).
For leisure I still play a guitar, but I have also learned to play a bodhran after I got i...Expand for more
nto Celtic history and music. Every once in a great while you might have caught me playing with a band at the Irish center in Buffalo, but no more.
And, yes, I have some Irish ancestry. In fact I did that Ancestry.com DNA and found out I am a European mongrel (East & West), British Isles, Iberian, Italian, Greek, Russian, Finnish, and Scandinavian. I understand my original American Minerd ancestors may have been Pennsylvania Dutch, in fact one of my great-grandfathers, Jacob Jr., fought in the American Revolution.
My other music likes are Bluegrass, Folk and Rock and Roll. I also have many other hobbies and pursuits such as Amateur Radio (however, I haven't been Hamstering for quite awhile now), history, auto racing (Use to race a rally car, but just a spectator now), computers ( I am a techno geek), travel (when I have the opportunity), home beer brewing, model railroading, watching bug movies (documentaries) & sports, reading, involved in the T.E.A. Party movement and hanging around with friends. You might find me at the Shamrock in Sardinia every once in awhile.
