Jon's Story
Life
After finishing High School at Carl Brablec High, I entered the US Army and attended Basic and AIT at Fort Polk, LA. My first assignment was at Fort Hood, Texas 1975-1977, my follow-on assignment was in Korea where I served a year at Camp Liberty Bell on the DMZ. In Jan 1978, I left the service and returned to Michigan where I moved to Lansing. In July 1979, I re-entered the US Army and was stationed at Fort Carson, CO, it was here that I met my beautiful wife Judy (Howell) we were married on 19 Jan 1980, the following Jan 15, 1981 our wonderful son Ryan Michael was born at Fort Carson Army Hospital. A few months later we departed for Schwienfurt, Germany where we resided from March 1981 - April 1984, during our stay in Germany we had a beautiful baby girl who was born on 29 Jun 1983, Misty Lea Mulcahy. urse (Green Berets), I graduated the SF Qualification Course, my first assignment as a Special Forces soldier was at Fort Campbell, KY where I went to the Gulf War and several other third world countries to free the opressed. We spent over eight years at Fort Campbell, KY then in 1996, I attended the Sergeants Major Academy from Aug 1997- May 1998, after graduation we were assigned to 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Carson, CO. Our son Ryan graduated May 1999 from Liberty High School in Colorado Springs and he was attending Colorado University at Colorado Springs and working full time at Wal-Mart. On 20 Feb 2000, while returning from visiting his girlfriend in Boulder, Co our son Ryan fell asleep at the wheel and was involved in a one car vehicle accident in which he was killed instantly at 12:30 A.M.he was approx 7-10 miles from our house. The week of 20-25 Feb 2000 was the worst week of our entire lives. No one will ever know what it meant for us to lose our son.
