Jonathan E.'s Story
Life
After graduating from PLHS, attended UCLA. While getting a BA in Geography, played basketball and was on three NCAA championship teams under John Wooden. From 1972-81, spent 7 of 10 years playing and coaching basketball in what was then "West" Germany (Acquired an MA in Geography in 1979-81).
After returning to the states, obtained a teaching credential at SDSU and began teaching at Culver City High School in that city located between Beverly Hills and Inglewood. After returning to UCLA to secure an M.Ed. and an administrative credential, I became an Assistant Principal at Culver City High School (Discipline/Athletics/"other duties as assigned") In August of 2002, I was asked to become the Principal of the Culver City Adult School. In November of 2002, I filed my dissertation to earn my Doctorate in education. As of August 2003, I was appointed Principal of Morningside High School in Inglewo...Expand for more
od, California. That did not work out, so I returned in August of 2004 to Culver City High School to teach Algebra (never taught math before).
Now, in 2008, I am teaching my old subject, Global Issues (World Geography), and Coaching the Boys Baskteball team in the Ocean League, Southern Section CIF.
While many people ask if I still play basketball, the sport that I have played continuously since college is softball. My team, the Rude Boys has competed in the LA City recreation since 1975. My goal is to accumulate 1,000 lifetime hits--it might take me til I'm 60. [Due to the manager of the team deciding to include play-off totals in lifetime stats, I accomplished this while stting on my behind between seasons, while he made his update.]
I look back fondly on my days at Point Loma High and enjoyed seeing (and missed seeing those who were absent) many classmates at the 40th reunion at Portugalia.
