Jonathan's Story

I have gone through many changes -- both physically and emotionally -- since graduation. After many years of personal struggles, I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (Low Spectrum Autism). I am now collecting disability and semi-retired -- but still continuing as a performing artist. I attended MTSU between 1984 and 1987, studying Music, Theater, and Dance. My first major break occurred in 1984, when I joined a Murfreesboro-based, performing arts troupe -- Tennessee On Tour, Inc. -- which traveled to, and performed in, Japan in May 1985. Among the musicals and plays I've appeared in over the past 30 years -- "Jesus Christ Superstar," "The Pirates of Penzance," "Cyrano de Bergerac," "The Chicago Conspiracy Trial," "The Sound of Music," "Oklahoma," "Once Upon a Matress," "Sweeny Todd," "Mame," "Tom Sawyer: The Musical," "Come Sing, Jimmy Jo," and "Disney's Beauty and the Beast." My most memorable roles were in Neil Simon's "Plaza Suite" at Lakewood Theater in Old Hickory (my first romantic lead), I then played Humphrey Bogart in Woody Allen's "Play It Again, Sam" at Encore Theatre Company in Mt. Juliet, and Mr. Musnik in "Little Shop of Horrors" for Mel O'Drama Theatre. I've also appeared on local community access television, one independent film, and most recently appeared as a semi-regular on the internet-based sitcom "Trailer Made," seen on both You Tube and Funny or Die. ...Expand for more
My most crowing achievement (to date) occurred In February 2011, after I was cast in another Neil Simon play, "The Odd Couple" at the former Nashville Dinner Theatre, located in Printer's Alley. I had the honor and privilege of working along side two veteran actors from classic TV sitcoms. Richard Moll [Bull from "Night Court"] starred in the role of Oscar Madison, and Joyce DeWitt [Janet from "Three's Company"] -- served as my Co-Director. Each were highly impressed with both my skills and professionalism. A third, notable cast member from "The Odd Couple" was actress Jaime Dudney (daughter of Barbara Mandrell), who appeared on the soap opera "As The World Turns" for two years. A year later, Jaime invited me to perform for The Mansion at Fontanel -- which was successful enough to become a annual event. I've also become involved with several local burlesque artists -- I perform as an emcee, comedian, and singer. Photography has also become another passion -- my specialites are Aviation (air shows, museums) and Burlesque / Pinups. Starting in 2007, I've traveled to numerous air shows and museums, in Tennessee and across the eastern United States. In 2012, joined Boheme Collectif, an artistic collective. In April 2013, I hosted my first public photo exhibition, launched my own photography company -- Thunder Angel Pix -- and I have two additional exhibitions coming up in June 2013.
