Jorge E.'s Story

There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. That little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative." Bio: With determination faith is with you always go beyond do what is impossibile to possible. In a single instance my life changed dramatically...it changed for the better. I wanted to be a police officer 10 years ago. My life was going great I was living in a great house with my 2 brothers, mom, dad, and my baby sister, she is not a baby no more she's older now. Hopefully one day my home will be accessible to me and I hope a surprise from extreme home makeover that my home will get a makeover. I was ready to become a police officer and while working full-time at a well respected company. On a Christmas night in 1999 while driving home bringing Christmas gifts to my sister. I WAS SHOT. 10 times all for a car, 2 hitting me in the left leg and 1 in the head. According to Detectives. One thing I did not know I was in a coma for a whole year. I thought I had mangled my face at first because of the amount of tubes i had. I thought for a second that I wouldn't walk away from here. The injuries that I sustained were severe and life changing, leaving me paratial. Many people thought it was a miracle that I survived while others were wondering why I would want to live considering the outcome. They thought I had lost everything, the opportunity to become a police officer and that great house with my family. because it was not accessible and still is not). One thing I had to learn quick and show everyone around me was that you can take my legs but you can never take my spirit. I remember when they told me that I would never walk again. So many images ran through my mind of running, walking, and just simply standing. All of these things that I took for granted in life and in an instant it was taken away from me. Mom said, "now is the time to fight your biggest fight of all. All ways have faith!...Expand for more
AND THAT I DO! MOM SAID You are my oldest child and out of anyone I know you are the only one that can make the best of this situation. You will not let this beat you, I was in the hospital for close too two years and during that time I experienced the biggest struggle of all. The physical therapy I had to endure was incredibly tough, but nothing compared to the mental game There were many times that I failed during physical therapy. I wasn't able to do a task the therapists asked of me. The times that I would get so frustrated the adversity would sneak in and just beat on me and put thoughts in me like, "Just give up! You can't do it! Why bother?" Just when I thought I couldn't endure anymore I remembered a quote, "Tough times never last, but tough people do!" I knew I had to get tough. Some people think the opposite of success is failure. I disagree. I believe the opposite of success is quitting. Thanks to a great Mentor I will not allow myself to quit, Captain LN. I kept pushing myself to reach for that moment of triumph when I would overcome this challenge. Just making it through another challenging day we can experience our own personal victory. Miracles do happened. I can not believe it myself . all this time i taught it was one bullet in my head Indeed it was two bullets that were removed from me by a doctors recently my head. I started having on April 1st head aches and notice my head bleeding I went in for a surgery the bullet was coming out of my head so doctors were in for a surprise not 1 but 2 bullets were found by the surgeons at GLENDALE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. AS FOR THE L.A.P.D. VERY POOR INVESTIGATION ON YOUR PART FROM THE BEGINNING I WISH IT OCCURRED SOMEWHERE ELSE WHERE THEY WONT LOSE PAPERWORK ESPECIALLY FILES IN THIS CRIME. now that the bullets are gone it gives me strength to reach others to continue there dreams. TO ME LIFE GOES ON!!!! It makes me stronger to even inspire others to pursue thier dreams as I. Jorge Acevedo class of 1989, Majestics
