Jose's Story
Life
To put everything in a semi-short and sweet round-up, after high school, I attended Muskegon Community College from 1996-99. I was on the wrestling team for 2 years and baseball team for 1 year. Our
1997-98 wrestling team finished 5th in the nation in the NJCAA National Championships. In April 1999, I graduated with an Associate's Degree in Arts & Sciences with a Physical Education-Secondary Schooling major. That Sept., I enlisted into the Marine Corps and graduated recruit training in Dec. From there, I did training at Camp Pendleton and 29 Palms, California. I then went to Okinawa, Japan on November 7, 2000 and served there until December 7, 2004. During that time, I had the opportunity to see countries like Korea, The Philippines and Australia (twice) as well as go to Alaska. I got married on May 17, 2003 but unfortunately it didn't work out and was divorced on January 24, 2005 with no children, luckily. While overseas, I continued to wrestle and played an occasional football year, while learning the sport of ultimate fighting. I'm now residing in Tampa, Florida with my new unit,...Expand for more

School
I guess the things that I remember most and all from school was the sports for sure. I had the greatest times with all the guys from all those teams but collectively, our senior year team was the greatest I remember being on, especially with the team unity. It was great to see so many of them at Coach Wohlfert's party back in 2001. I do think about those days often and still remember all those practices we all killed each other losing weight, sweating our tail ends off and walking out of that room barely able to walk but come time for the meets, we were all good to go. Not a day goes by, especially after speaking with some of the old faces every now and then when I can, that that team could have been one of the best barring injuries. Top to bottom, we were good: Kottalis, Cash, myself, Sunshine, Danner, Buck, The Slades, VerBurg, Cameron, Spiece, Parrish, Bruno, Kienan, Brown and so many others who did their part. I wish I could relive those many months again if I ever had to choose.
