PLEASE VIEW MY ALBUMS... PHOTOS... category above!!!
These albums took a lot of time to do and explain a lot about part of my life that a lot of you never knew about me. If you were a student of mine. Many of you all did know some of this if you ever visited me at home or at one of my shops where I built cars..
I attended Central High in Springfield, Mo and Greenwood. Graduated in 1963.
Became a teacher and worked as a Maintenance engineer in a few industries in addition to teaching.
Thanks to Fla. Schools System (28 years) for wonderful employment and a retirement finally!
Missouri schools, where I was raised, I taught for only 5 years... just one year at a time in each school. Got tired of winters there so I flew South. Also I drag raced and built cars which some people thought I was a wild dude...... NOT!!!
My car hobby, had me treading my time not in class rebuilding an old car. This did several things. Yes I used electricity keeping the lights on and for tools to run. BUT I also bought my own drill bits and tools as the ones in the school shops were not taken care of by the last teachers that left and I replaced. I got tired of hearing those comments when I heard them. My tools that we also used in shop teaching!! I also repaired all of the machinery neglected, out of adjustment, bad bearings from lack of lubrication. Many of these shops had been Agriculture classes too made into Industrial Arts courses IF they found a shop teacher willing to come on board. So the places were a pig sty (pun intended here) which I also rebuilt all of these discrepancies at NO charge to the school administrations. after school on my OWN time which I was not obligated to do. These car simple projects, were, actually a course builder but it was not seen that way in the small Missour...Expand for more
i Schools I taught in. In the 21st Century it became acceptable to build programs using performance cars and such. This attracted students and correct information with safety was used to guide students. . But NOT in the 60's and 70's in Missouri small schools. When made to stop also ALL extra time and repairs also stopped and I moved on.
I did not smoke, drink alcohol, do any type of drugs, gamble, nor cater to wild behavior. I just liked to build cars and dragrace (sensibly). I was also single, drove hot rods and Corvettes. So I think schools thought I would date students.or be a bad influence ??? I NEVER did any of those things!!! I preached to students to do things in a sensible way and NOT harm property. You can still have lots of fun without any of the other vices. Why didn't Missouri schools SEE that instead of just listen to gossip from people who didn't even know me? They still DO to this day in small towns, Why???
So my going to Florida was a BIG step up for this guy. Different place with different outlook it seemed. I was from Missouri. Knew it well. But somehow I just didn't belong there. ?????????
Sad but true.
See my photo albums on this site.
Hope you all are doing well.
Good luck with life and your grand babies!
Say hello when you can. I still enjoy hearing from you guys! If we knew each other along life's path than God gave us that privileged and I thank you so much!!!
Thanks again for sharing a part of YOUR life with me!
I hope I taught you worthwhile things that you got to use or understand better in your adult lives. A trade with financial benefits.
I do miss drag racing at the Desoto strip!
