Joseph's Story
Life
Joined the Army in 1979 and stayed in until 1985. Got married in 1981 then divorced in 1983, married again in 1983 and had two kids, Alexandria, Joseph Jr.. Divorced in 1987 and became a single parent when the kids were 2 and 3. I got remarried in 1988. In 1992 we added a daughter Abby Elaine and then in 2002 we added another daughter, Anna Susan.
Worked for Bell Areospace(Textron Marine Systems now) building the Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC or Hovercraft) as a Lift and Propulsion Specialist from 1985 until 1987. I moved back to Missouri in 1987 and worked for the Department of Corrections for 5 and a half years. Went to College in 1992 and became a Middle School/High School Social Studies teacher. Coached 7th grade boys Basketball, Boys and Girls track, Freshman Football and was an Asst. Defensive Coordinator for the Varsity program. I've been retired since 2003 but not by choice. I had a Heart attack and subsequently had triple bypass. Right now seems I'm healthy as can be expected but they don't want me working. I fish and camp when I get the chance and became a grandfather in October of 2004. For the past 2 years (2005-06 and 2006-07) I have been nominated (and accepted) for Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
My 14 year old just started her freshman year of High School and was a starter on the Varsity Volleyball team. She is currently playing basketball on the Junior Varsity. Not bad for a young lady who was born 6 weeks premature and spent her first 8 days of life in Children's Hospital in St. Louis. The 4 year old was a surprise and was definitely NOT what I expected at 42 with one getting ready to go off to college (she'll graduate with her degree in Psychology in May of 07).
Drop me a line sometime.
Workplace
I guess I kinda went the roundabout way as far as careers go. I started out by going into the Army. I knew if I stayed in the area I would get in trouble. I went around the world a couple of times and saw places that quite frankly I don't ever want to see again and some that I dream about going back too. It was in the military that...Expand for more
I really got a taste for history and my place in it. But..... life had other plans. I got married (big mistake) and divorced...then got married again (another big mistake) and had a couple of kids within about 15 months. Then got out of the Army and worked in New Orleans building Hovercraft for the Navy... Seperated from the wife because she left and didn't want the kids.. I became a single parent and unemployed around about the same time. Moved back to Mo. and went to work for the Dept. Of Corrections. Best paying babysitting job I ever had! Got divorced for the second time and settled in to raise my kids. About 4 months after I started in Corrections I met my wife. We met in Nov of 87 and married in June of 88 and have been married ever since. In 96 I got my degree in Secondary Education/Social Studies/History and starting teaching and coaching. I loved it and don't know why I took so long to do it. I have been retired since Jan 2003. In 2005 and 2006 I was named to Who's Who among America's Teachers. Seems like I just got better with age. I know that there are a lot of people out there that didn't think I'd ever amount to anything. Classmates and teachers alike. Well, maybe they were right and maybe they weren't but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter. All that really matters is that I am content with the way my life turned out. Rough spots and all. It made me what and who I am. The experiences that I went through in school and in life helped to mold me in ways that I wouldn't ever change. For that I thank everyone that touched my life in their own ways. And for those who are still living in the past, still looking at there lives through the prism of their High School accomplishments...............grow up the rest of us are laughing at you and your stupidity........how juvenile and adolecent. You are in your 40's and believe it or not no one gives a sh** what family you are from or what group you were with in school...there is a life outside of that sheltered enviroment that you grew up in and maybe are even currently working in.
