Joshua's Story

I moved to Sycamore, Illinois just before our senior year. The flat land there afforded me a real view of thunderstorms and I found that meteorology was my passion. I went to college and storm chased all over the Midwest, and got my Ph.D. studying tropical cyclone tornadoes while at Saint Louis University. I even taught at Southwestern Illinois College for a couple of years to help fund the studies. I met my beautiful wife, Aimee, at Saint Louis University. She was also studying Meteorology, though she has since changed careers and works in the legal department of a farm financing firm. We just celebrated our seventh anniversary, and are working on having a couple of children to keep our two chocolate labs...Expand for more
(Bonnie and Clyde) company when they are not hunting with us. As far as professionally, I am the Science and Operations Officer at the National Weather Service office in Bismarck, North Dakota. For those curious, that means I lead all science, training and research efforts for the team of meteorologists that forecast and issue severe weather warnings for all of western and central North Dakota, and that of their support staff. Aimee and I love being here in the Northern Plains, where there are enough people around to have amenities, and we are a short hike over a hill away from feeling like we are the only people in the world. And did I mention that the weather up here can only be described as extreme?
