Joshua's Story
I grew up in The Dalles, Oregon. I attended Chenowith Primary and Middle Schools. I attended and graduated from The Dalles High School. I attended Linfield College, played football and graduated in 1994 with a BS in Biology. Then I worked for my high school biology teacher after graduation putting in pools and building his parent's house in Zillah, WA. I then drove for UPS in The Dalles until December 1994 and enlisted in the Army. I went to Basic Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma (D Battery 1/33rd Field Artillery) after Basic I went to Fort Sam Houston for training as a Medic and as an X-ray Tech. I did Phase II training at Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, WA. My first duty assignment was Landstuhl, Germany. While I was there I did temporary duties at Bamberg, Bad Kreuznacht, Baumholder, Germany and four months at Camp Darby (Pisa) Italy. I PCS'ed to Fort Hood, TX for a year and was transferred back to Fort Sam Houston due to some complications we had with our daughter when she was born...Expand for more
(aortic coarc repair) and needed to be close to a MEDCEN. While I was at Fort Sam, I was promoted to Sergeant (SGT) and was promotable to Staff Sergeant (SSG) but got commissioned as an Army Health Physics Officer two weeks prior to being promoted to SSG. After my commissioning I attended Officer's Basic Course (OBC) at Fort Sam and then left for my first assignment as an officer at Tripler Army Medical Center (Hawaii) - WHEW! Rough duty... While at Tripler I was promoted to First Lieutenant (1LT) and then I was sent to East Timor for 6 months as a Medical Planner with USGET. After I returned I was promoted to Captain (CPT) and then PCS'ed to Fort Knox, KY. We were in KY for 4 1/2 years and then finally got transferred to Fort Lewis (Madigan Army Medical Center) where I am the Chief of Health Physics for MAMC and the Western Region. I was promoted to Major in June 2010. I am recently divorced and have custody of my four kids. I am preparing to retire in one year. I live in the Tacoma, WA area.
