Joy's Story
Life
Even though I actually dropped out the second semester of my senior year, I still consider myself from the class of'81 at Springfield High School. I went on to finish and get my high school diploma from the Cohn Adult High School in Nashville where I graduated at the top of my class in May of 1994. I regretted being a dropout for so many years and dreamed of going back to high school for real. One day the dream became a reality. I saw a notice at the public library. It offered the opportunity to high school drop outs to earn the credits they needed to earn their high school diploma. There were evening and day classes in an all adult atmosphere. There were dances, socials,and we even had a prom. I was active in student government and the school newspaper.

chool, I was so shy and elf-concscious. I had a terrible inferiority complex and was afraid other kids would not like me. But I out grew the shyness. Now, you can hardly shut me up! We had a cap and gown ceremony graduation and it was taped for Community Access Televison for cable and I was one of the students who gave a graduation speech. This was quite an accomplishment for me and I couldnt have done it withoutstrength from God. I have four children and they were small at the time. The twins weren't quite three yet so they were in daycare on campus at the school with me. The other two children were in kindergarten and fourth grade, I think. Christian Walton is now 19 years old, Julian Geraldo is 15, and Alegria and Benjamin Jr. are almost 13 years old.
