Joy's Story
I am a creative, JOYFUL, busy wife, mother, and Certified Medical Assistant/Office Manager. I balance my work life and home life with volunteer work volunteering for Community Emergency Response Teams here in Whatcom County and for Medical Reserve Corps. When I have time, I also volunteer for the American Red Cross disaster services. I am also a "Health Minister" on our church's Parish Nurse team, helping to visi the members of our congregation. Poetry is my creative outlet along with art and sewing.
Thursday evenings are reserved for volunteering with a 4-H group that works with dogs. The NW Washington Fair in August finds us helping the 4-H group show what they've learned throughout the year in training their dogs.
Bryan is retired from full time work but is self-employed.
When not busy with these activities, you can find me writing poetry. I have been writing poetry since 3rd grade but have been writing for poetry contests since at least 10 years ago, if not longer. I have been published by the International Library of Poetry, and other anthologies, both here in the U.S. as well as in England. I thin...Expand for more
k and write better in poetry than in prose, thanks to Mrs. Jovanovich in Senior English!
In high school I never wanted to be a nurse! I was so grossed out by biology and dissecting that I figured that the farthest thing from nursing would be best. Well, lifeguarding and teaching swimming lessons to put myself through college found me taking first aid and CPR. I had to face the inevitable blood and ugly pictures at least. And if something happened while I was on duty, I'd have to face it then too. So, there I was havivng to realize that it wouldn't be so bad if something where to happen. I got into teaching, taught for five years and didn't really like it. After five years, I decided to try something else. That's when I took a "Girl Friday" job in a medical office. And you know, it wasn't so bad. I took an EMT course, I got my certification as a medical assistant, and I really liked what I was doing. (Mrs. Freeman, are you listening?) In fact, I even had to give CPR one day at my lunch hour.
And the procedures I've helped with: they've been worse than dissecting a frog!
