Joyce's Story
I've been told for as long as I can remember by all those around me that I needed to start living in the real world. "Pull yourself out from in front of that TV (or your nose out of that book) and pay attention to what's going on around you." Well, I've done my best to do the responsible thing for the last half century or so. The one thing I learned is that living "Outside Reality" can be a far happier and less stressful place. Try this test yourself. Are some of your happiest childhood memories playing with your friends after school or coming home and watching Superman, Fraggle Rock, or whatever your generations "must see" after school show was. Do you get more pleasure thinking back on the horrors of high school or by thinking back about the classic TV shows of the day, no matter how cheesy they might have been. Finally, if you're one of the millions of people who can't imagine living without a DVR then I think you should join me "Outside Reality".
How I blow off steam:
Riding my motorcycle through the back roads of New Hampshire.
My hero, my anchor, inspiration and sanity all came from my Dad.
If I won $100 million, I'd give 30 % of it to...Expand for more
family & charity, then spend the rest on travel, retirement security and electronic gadgets and toys.
Jeans and a T-shirt worked for me then and it works for me now. Not exactly a slave to fashion.
Bizarre awards and acknowledgments over the years: Staff teaching award for computer training, commendation for financial policies and practices from MA DPH Quest, Bowling trophy for TNLL top average for season, Trophy from New England Trail Riders Association for being the only woman to complete a 100 mile turkey run through the woods of MA. A third place finish in a barrel racing competition on horseback, 1 Semester on the Deans list at Bentley College. No Pulitzer Prize but I've had some interesting and unique experiences.
My oldest, best friend is a man named Dave who I met in 1980 at Bentley college in a philosophy class called "Women in Society" (rep as an easy A). We went out after class one night for drinks and a smoke and immediately bonded over our mutual issues with our mothers. He's moved all over the country these last 29 years and we have both been in and out of relationships but have remained best friends and solid supports for each other.
