Joyce's Story
Following graduation from Duenweg High School in 1963, I attending Joplin Junior College and worked at Oak Hill Hospital as the medical records supervisor. I married in 1966 and divorced in 1976, during that time I was in hospital administration in Cassville, MO and Dexter, MO. I worked for a physician in Joplin then went into real estate for Charles Burt Realtor. I married Cal Newman in December 1976 and we moved to Lee's Summit, MO. He had two children and then in July 1978 we had our daughter, Kelly, who has been the most wonderful gift in my life. We moved to Derby, KS (near Wichita) and lived there for 29 years. r a real estate company in Derby, KS. I attended Baker University in my 50's. Cal was a pharmaceutical representative for 25 years, then a financial planner. Our daughter, Kelly and her husband T.J. Kilian graduated from KU and live in Overland Park, KS and wanted us to move there. We quit our jobs and went to work for a retirement community, managing two retirement communities and retired in January 2010. We love playing with our grandchildren- Blake and Natalie, they are wonderful grandchildren and see them nearly daily. Cal and I love to travel, visit with friends and see our children and grandchildren. We have 13 grandchildren from our three children (including their step children). Our lives are full, we feel blest to have good health and happiness. Life is good!
