Judith's Story
Life
I had my first experience at singing a solo in my 5th grade school play at West Park Place school. In fact, I have a picture of myself singing "Sweet Betsy from Pike" while Ellen Wright, Biff Meier and a few others are looking on. I went on to join choir in junior high and the church choir. However, I also played the flute in the Central Junior High and Newark Senior High School bands . A few years ago, I joined my church choir and then performed in a musical where I had a solo and also sang as part of a small group. It was a lot of fun. I have continued to play piano almost everyday. I get the old flute out from time to time. Music has continued to be a big part of my life.
University of Delaware:
I lived in Kent Hall for the first 6 months. After that, I lived in Squire Hall with Gail Porter, then with Marg Blanchard. I was on the third floor and in the basement. I graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education. The next year I took more education courses and got my Elementary Teaching Certificate in the state of New Jersey.
After graduating from the University of Delaware, I was married and began tea...Expand for more
ching elementary school in New Jersey. Tennis, choir, volunteering, playing piano, gardening, and genealogy keep me busy in my free time. I volunteered for various committees at my childrens' schools and worked in the school library once a week for many years. I served as PTA vice president and PTO president. I am now a substitute teacher at our local high school and middle school.
A few years ago, after my father died, I took care of my mom who was in the middle stages of Alzheimer's. After 8 1/2 months, she went into assisted living, and then a nursing home. She passed away in 2006.
My oldest son graduated from the U. of DE. My second son started at U of DE, but switched to Rowan University. My youngest is in high school. I enjoy going back to visit Newark and visiting my brother Rob. I used to live on Fox Lane, off of Wedgewood Rd. We often talk about the great sledding we had on those hills out there, and ice skating in Covered Bridge Farms or Glen Farms.
I have so many great memories of my friends from band, choir, and of course, my Tri-Hi-Y (Tau Sigma Phi).
Hope to see some of you at our reunions.
