Judith's Story

My husband Don and I decided we wanted a little adventure in our lives. We sold our home and bought a 41ft sail boat and spent 3yrs getting her outfitted to sail across the Pacific. On Oct 1, 2009 we set sail for Mexico, where we spent 6 months. On April 5th 2010 we sail across the Pacific. It took 28 days to cross and our first land fall was Hiva Oa in the Marquesas's. We have sailed to Rangiora, Tahiti, Society Islands, Cook Islands National Park Sarwarro, Samoa, and Am. Samoa. We will be spending the season here and enjoying the island and the very friendly Samoan people Oct 2014 We are now getting ready to leave Am.Samoa 4yrs. and a few set backs. We will miss all the friends we have made but is time to move on. Our first stop will be Fiji which will take us approx. 6 days to sail there. Going to take boat out of the water and put on the hard for a bottom job and a few repair from getting hit by other boats n the anchorage. Hope see as much of Fiji as we can before we head for Tonga to renew old friendships. March 2015 Still in Fiji and all repairs made. Planned to leave last week but Cyclone Pam changed our minds. It missed Fiji but hit Vanuatu with a vengeance which is about 600 miles from us. Will wait until weather settles before we leave for Micronesia. As you can see we changed our minds about our destination. All is well! Sept 2015 We sailed from Fiji to Kosrea, FSM and plan to stay a week. We were there 3 mo, due to a strong storm that put us on the rocks. ...Expand for more
While waiting for a new prop. we enjoyed the island and the people. We left Kosrea and headed for the Marshall Islands where we are now for the season. We are moored inside a 12 mi. across atoll and when the west winds blow it is not pleasant. Feb. 2016 We still in the Marshall Islands. We made it though the westerly winds which were the worst thing I have been through being on a mooring. It was like riding a rocking horse day and night for 2 months with winds at 30+. We now getting boat ready for sail to Hawaii at end of May. Have also gone to one of the atoll islands where we swam, snorkeled, and explored the island. Have met a lot of interesting people here and have joined the yacht club which has different functions. New Years Eve is held at a park with live music, dancing, lots of beer, and a verity of different food stands. It was one big party attended by most of the adults and children of Majuro Atoll. Aug.7, 2016 Our adventure ended when on our way to Hawaii we lost our mast, which is now in 13000 ft. of water in the Pacific Ocean. We had to motor back to Wake Island, took 6 days with fuel a concern, and then get permission from our military to land. It was an experience I would not like to have again. We were very lucky no one was hurt, boat performed well, and weather held and ins. is coming though.. Now our new adventure. Just bought first car in 8 yrs, and planning to move to west coast of Fl. We will be leaving Ca. within the next month. So the adventure begins.
